OVERVIEW OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The National Chess Championships of Jamaica is held annually and is the selection tournament for the Chess Olympiad, which is held once every two years.
It is normally a Round Robin Tournament consisting of Twelve players, which includes the defending Champion of the previous year,who is an automatic qualifier. In addition to the defending champion, Eight other active players s with the highest Selection Indices as of 31st May of every year are also selected to play against the reigning National Champion for the title of National Chess Champion of Jamaica. Three other players are also selected, which includes a player from outside the corporate area.
The annual Tournament is currently sponsored by Lasco Foods, and NM Duane Rowe is the defending champion.
